The Forest School Approach

The Forest School Approach

La escuela del bosque

Our Forest School approach gives children the freedom to learn, explore and take appropriate risks within a rich natural environment. Through child‑led play and hands-on discovery, our children grow into confident, curious and independent learners.

Children at Bilingual Day Nurseries

We offer a wide range of Forest School experiences inspired by our families’ interests — from gardening and nature exploration to fire‑pit sessions and safe tool use.

These opportunities help children build resilience, self‑esteem and a deep connection with the outdoors.

Our sessions are led by our exceptional Level 3 Forest School practitioners, all trained in specialised outdoor paediatric first aid. Their expertise ensures every experience is safe, purposeful and deeply enriching.

Forest School is an integral part of our curriculum.

All children access regular sessions as part of their nursery fees, ensuring equal opportunities for outdoor learning. Each session is designed to nurture the whole child.

Activities promote independence, resilience, confidence, problem-solving and safe risk‑taking — supporting children to become capable, empowered learners.

Forest School FAQs

If you require any further information, please don’t hesitate to ask us.

What is the Forest School approach?

Forest School is an approach to learning that takes place in a natural outdoor environment. Children are encouraged to explore, investigate, play and discover at their own pace. Through regular outdoor experiences, they develop confidence, independence, resilience and a deeper connection with nature.

What will my child do during Forest School sessions?

Children may take part in nature walks, den building, gardening, bug hunts, exploring natural materials, imaginative play and seasonal activities. Experiences are shaped around children’s interests, encouraging them to ask questions, solve problems and learn through hands-on exploration.

How does Forest School help my child develop?

Forest School supports children’s physical, social, emotional and cognitive development. Children have opportunities to develop coordination, communication, teamwork, problem-solving and self-confidence. They also learn to assess age-appropriate risks, make decisions and persevere when faced with challenges.

Will Forest School take place in bad weather?

Outdoor learning can be enjoyed throughout the seasons, and we encourage children to experience different weather conditions when it is safe and appropriate. We ask parents to provide suitable waterproof clothing, warm layers and sturdy footwear. Activities are adapted to weather conditions, with children’s safety, comfort and wellbeing always our priority.

How does Forest School link with our bilingual approach?

Nature provides wonderful opportunities for children to develop English and Spanish naturally through meaningful experiences. From naming plants and animals to describing the weather, following instructions and sharing discoveries, children encounter new vocabulary through play, exploration and conversation. This brings bilingual learning to life in an engaging, memorable way.
